Voter Registration Deadlines

June 24, 2014 Federal Primary Deadlines

MAIL REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-210(3))
Application must be postmarked no later than May 30th and received by a board of elections no later than June 4th to be eligible to vote in the Primary.

IN PERSON REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Sections 5-210, 5-211, 5-212)
You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the Federal Primary, your application must be received no later than May 30th.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-208(3))
Notices of change of address from registered voters received by June 4th by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the Federal Primary.

September 9, 2014 State and Local Primary Deadlines

MAIL REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-210(3))
Application must be postmarked no later than August 15th and received by a board of elections no later than August 20th to be eligible to vote in the Primary.

IN PERSON REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Sections 5-210, 5-211, 5-212)
You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the State and Local Primary, your application must be received no later than August 15th.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-208(3))
Notices of change of address from registered voters received by August 20th by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the State & Local Primary.

November 4, 2014 General Election Deadlines

MAIL REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-210(3))
Applications must be postmarked no later than October 10th and received by a board of elections no later than October 15th to be eligible to vote in the General Election.

IN PERSON REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Sections 5-210, 5-211, 5-212)
You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the November General Election, your application must be received no later than October 10th except, if you have been honorably discharged from the military or have become a naturalized citizen since October 10th, you may register in person at the board of elections up until October 24th.

Notices of change of address from registered voters received by October 15th by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the General Election.

2014 Voting by Absentee Ballot Deadlines

FOR FEDERAL PRIMARY ELECTION

Date Deadline Information
June 17 Last day to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot.
June 23 Last day to apply IN-PERSON for absentee ballot.
June 23 Last day to postmark ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than July 1st.
June 24 Last day to deliver ballot IN-PERSON to the local board of elections (by someone other than the voter).

FOR STATE AND LOCAL PRIMARY ELECTION

Sept. 2 Last day to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot.
Sept. 8 Last day to apply IN-PERSON for absentee ballot.
Sept. 8 Last day to postmark ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than Sept. 17th.
Sept. 9 Last day to deliver ballot IN-PERSON to the local board of elections (by someone other than the voter).

FOR GENERAL ELECTION

Oct. 28 Last day to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot.
Nov. 3 Last day to apply IN-PERSON for absentee ballot.
Nov. 3 Last day to postmark ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than Nov. 12th. Military Voter Ballots must be received no later than Nov. 17th.
Nov. 4 Last day to deliver ballot IN-PERSON to the local board of elections (by someone other than the voter).
