Voter Registration Deadlines

June 26, 2018 Federal Primary Deadlines

MAIL REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-210(3))
Application must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2018 and received by a board of elections no later than June 6, 2018 to be eligible to vote in the Primary.

IN PERSON REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Sections 5-210, 5-211, 5-212)
You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the Federal Primary, your application must be received no later than June 1, 2018

CHANGE OF ADDRESS (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-208(3))
Notices of change of address from registered voters received by June 6, 2018 by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the Federal Primary.

September 13, 2018 State and Local Primary Deadlines

MAIL REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-210(3))
Application must be postmarked no later than August 19, 2018 and received by a board of elections no later than August 24, 2018 to be eligible to vote in the Primary.

IN PERSON REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Sections 5-210, 5-211, 5-212)
You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the State and Local Primary, your application must be received no later than August 19, 2018

CHANGE OF ADDRESS (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-208(3))
Notices of change of address from registered voters received by August 24, 2018 by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the State & Local Primary.

November 6, 2018 General Election Deadlines

MAIL REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-210(3))
Applications must be postmarked no later than October 12, 2018 and received by a board of elections no later than October 17, 2018 to be eligible to vote in the General Election.

IN PERSON REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Sections 5-210, 5-211, 5-212)
You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the General Election, your application must be received no later than October 12, 2018. If honorably discharged from the US Military or have become a naturalized US Citizen after October 13, 2018, you may register in person at the Board of Elections up until October 27, 2018.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-208(3))
Notices of change of address from registered voters received by October 17, 2018 by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the General Election.

CHANGE OF ENROLLMENT (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-304(3))
An application to change one’s party enrollment for 2019 must be received by the board of elections no later than October 12, 2018.

2018 Voting by Absentee Ballot Deadlines

FOR FEDERAL PRIMARY ELECTION

June 19 Last day to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot.
June 25 Last day to apply IN-PERSON for absentee ballot.
June 25 Last day to postmark ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than July 3rd.
June 26 Last day to deliver ballot IN-PERSON to the local board of elections (by someone other than the voter).

FOR STATE AND LOCAL PRIMARY ELECTION

Date Deadline Information
September 6 Last day to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot.
September 12 Last day to apply IN-PERSON for absentee ballot.
September 12 Last day to postmark ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than Sept. 20th.
September 13 Last day to deliver ballot IN-PERSON to the local board of elections (by someone other than the voter).

FOR GENERAL ELECTION

October 30 Last day to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot.
November 5 Last day to apply IN-PERSON for absentee ballot.
November 5 Last day to postmark ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than Nov. 13th. Military Voter Ballots must be received no later than Nov. 19th.
November 6 Last day to deliver ballot IN-PERSON to the local board of elections (by someone other than the voter).
